What is Safe & Sound?
Safe & Sound is a movement advancing psychologically informed ministry.
Psychology helps us understand people. Theology tells us who God is. Ministry is where they meet — the faithful work of forming people in a fragmented world.
Through research, teaching, assessment, and training, we equip churches to build communities where people experience belonging, healing, and formation — and take their place in the life and mission of the Church.
You were taught what to believe. You were rarely shown who to be while believing it.
Very few of us were ever taught how people actually change.
So instead of being formed through what we understood, we were often shaped by the parts of ourselves we never knew what to do with.
Safe & Sound begins in that gap.

Psychologically informed ministry isn’t a posture — it’s a practice. S.A.F.E. is how a church learns it: to see people before their problems, understand what they carry, form them in environments where change becomes possible, and equip them for the life and mission of the Church.

Why I started Safe & Sound
For years I watched people sincerely love Jesus while quietly carrying anxiety, shame, grief, trauma, and questions they didn’t know how to bring into church. Many were taught what to believe. Far fewer were shown how God meets us in the realities of being human.
The longer I served as a pastor, the more convinced I became that discipleship wasn’t simply about learning more information. It was about becoming a different kind of person.
Eventually I realized the church needed a more psychologically informed way of ministering to people — not a softer gospel, but a wiser, more faithful practice of forming them. Everything we build — research, assessment, training, curriculum, books — serves that one conviction.
